Early Childhood Educator Competencies
The third ELAC ARRA funded project will incorporate the California Department of Education’s newly developed
California Early Childhood Educator Competencies
into the Early Childhood Education (ECE) course work of Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) and alternative providers
– and also integrate them into the professional development activities identified in California's Child Care and
Development Fund (CCDF) State Plan.
This work will:
- Use the competencies to develop a higher education common course of study, and an aligned professional development system;
- Ensure that California's early learning foundations, curriculum frameworks, and assessment system components are appropriately integrated into IHEs’ ECE coursework and training content and teaching strategies of the CCDF professional development providers; and
- Be instrumental in developing a coherent and articulated statewide system for educating and training our workforce and providing quality professional development.
